My name is Jordan - and this adorable dog’s name is Navi. She’s the pet of the fantastic musician, and friend of the store I work at, Rainbowdragoneyes. There’s one thing, though. She has cancer.
“On August 5th Navi was rushed to the emergency vet after I came home to her laying on the floor crying in pain. When I got to the vet they ran several tests and came back with news that Navi had a tumor on her spleen which was bleeding into her abdomen.
They gave me the choice to either put her down, or do a $5000 emergency surgery to remove her spleen. $5000 is a lot of money, but Navi is a special girl and we had to save her. We ended up taking out a loan to pay for Navi’s surgery, hoping that the biopsy would come back benign.
Unfortunately Navi’s tumor was formed by an aggressive form of cancer called Hemangiosarcoma. Without chemotherapy Navi has 3 weeks - 3 months until the cancer will take over again and form new tumors.
With chemotherapy Navi has a chance. Either she will go into some sort of remission and live a long healthy life, or we can delay the cancer and enjoy spending time with her for another year. Navi is only 6 years old and wants to grow old with us!
Most people hear the word chemotherapy and assume this will be a painful ordeal for Navi, but fortunately chemo for dogs is very mild. Only 5% of dogs have negative side effects like diarrhea and vomiting. If she is in the 5% we will not continue treatment, as quality of life is our #1 priority.”
